Lodge History
Saanich Peninsula Lodge #89 was newly constituted on Nov 5/04; it is a lodge
of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons Number 89 on the Register of the Grand
Lodge of B.C. and Yukon. Saanich Peninsula Lodge is the result of a
consolidation of Mt. Newton Lodge and Sidney Lodge; both of these Lodges have
a rich and long history in freemasonry in B.C. extending over more than 80
years.
The result of this consolidation has created a strong and vibrant Lodge with
membership growing to excess of 170 members and new candidates and
affiliations coming in almost daily. The traditions and history of both Lodges
has been carefully preserved and protected in our consolidation; we are able
to take great advantage of the many customs, events, practices and community
ties of both Lodges which makes every meeting of Saanich Peninsula Lodge #89
an event of note, purpose and wonderful fraternal fellowship. Saanich
Peninsula Lodge #89 also benefits from the great wealth of both Mt. Newton and
Sidney Lodges in membership and finances making it possible for Saanich
Peninsula Lodge to bestow several scholarships yearly on local students and
allowing the Lodge to make generous donations to a great number of worthy
local community organizations and events. Saanich Peninsula Lodge #89 has a
full social calendar each year and holds many events for the benefit of the
Brethren, their families and friends such as Xmas Dinner, Spring and Summer
BBQ's, Burns Night, Farmer's Night.
Visitors: Visiting Brethren from accredited Lodges are always made welcome;
given a token of their visit and encouraged to come again and come often.
Membership: Is open to sponsored candidates who are male and of the full age
of 21 years; anyone interested in more information is encouraged to contact
the secretary who will pass on your name to our membership committee; we hold
regular meetings with potential candidates to provide detail and information.
Local: Saanich Peninsula Lodge #89 is located in the center of the Saanich
Peninsula just off East Saanich Rd. on the border between North and Central
Saanich. We own our Lodge building and surrounding lands which are the site of
our meetings and many social events.
