When the idea of writing a book about my weight journey was pitched to me, I was honoured and ecstatic that someone thought I was worthy of chronicling and publishing my story, at the same time, I did not think anybody would be interested in reading about my life.  However, I trusted that this knowledgeable person knew how the information he was suggesting be included in the book would be inspiring to others and since he was incredibly confident my story should be told, I decided to proceed with the book and “A Fat Girl’s Butterflies: A True Story of Extreme Weight Loss” was conceived.

webjean-200x300Since starting this project, I have learnt that I had already inspired others.  For example one lady told me that her husband had been watching me walk all the time and saw how much I was changing, based on this he decided that he too could walk regularly and make other changes in his life, as a result he has lost 40 pounds.

I am now several years Roux-en-Y gastric bypass post-op and losing over 300 pounds was a life saving event for me, my decision to have gastric bypass surgery was made the moment I realized without it I was facing the reality of an early death.  I believed surgery could give me the tool and with my own dedication and determination to use the tool, losing weight and keeping it off was possible, which would help me live life not just exist in life.  With the help and support of many people along the way I have been successful in my quest for extreme weight loss and have been given a second chance at life.  By writing “A Fat Girl’s Butterflies: A True Story of Extreme Weight Loss” I would like to thank those helpful people by paying forward their encouragement and assistance in the way of helping others achieve their goal of a healthier life.

For me, writing “A Fat Girl’s Butterflies: A True Story of Extreme Weight Loss” has helped me face many aspects of my old and new life, as a result throughout the pages of “A Fat Girl’s Butterflies: A True Story of Extreme Weight Loss” I have opened up about my lifelong struggles of weight gain and loss, including what life was like for me as a fat person, how I have used the special tool given to me by way of surgery, how life has changed now that I am at a normal weight for the first time and how becoming a inspiration role model has been a positive in my own journey.
