Is Being Fat A Disease? (Obesity)

This question is the heart of all the problems associated with the lack or support and treatment for people with obesity. Almost all Governments consider obesity a life style choice. Life style choice equals “your fault” and “fix it” yourself.

If you’ve read my articles before, you know that I urge people to be advocates for Weight Loss Surgery reform. Certainly in Canada we have a long journey to go before we get Provincial Governments and Health Authorities to view Weight Loss Surgery as required treatment for a disease called Obesity. I’m afraid that many of us have targeted the wrong issue when it comes to weight loss surgery. Read the rest of this post

NDP Takes Action For Bariatric Surgery – Criticizes BC Liberal Government

VICTORIA – Adrian Dix, NDP Health Critic held a Press Conference today at the BC Legislature criticizing the Liberal Health Ministry’s acceptance of bariatric surgery budget cuts by the Vancouver Island Health Authority. (VIHA). Dix said that in talks with the Hon Kevin Falcon Minster of Health, he asked what evidence the government was using to justify VIHA’s budget cuts for weight loss by-pass surgery. The subject of writing seems like a funny choice for a blog on health. Never the less, I think it’s appropriate as the 100th article on WLS Support Blog. I believe that new content is the key in making a blog vibrant and alive. It brings readers back, generates discussion and attracts new readers. To add content, some one must write.
