Hi Everyone

I had my surgery on feb 17th of this year.  I had my first fill on March 23rd.  Dr Amson put in 2cc's.  Since I have had the fill I dont notice any difference.  Even when I have eaten too fast or not chewed enough nothing has got stuck.  I feel like I could eat just like before the surgery.  I am trying to eat smaller amounts but I feel like this tool is not helping me.  I have been on many diets in my life and they have never worked so i am a little discouraged.  I just want to know if this is normal?  I get my next fill in 7 weeks so hopefully that will help me feel full.    Help!!!  Any words of wisdom for me would really help.

Hi Jaidyn

Can you get a message to Dr. Amson and ask him if this is supposed to be this way?  Do you have a support group in your area, that you can talk to someone that has had lapband as well?

I'm sorry you are going through this, hang in there, there has to be a solution to this.

Are you sure you are still eating the same amount as you could before?  Sometimes our eyes are deceiving us when we are actually eating less.

I didnt have lapband but had the Rouxeny and nothing get stucks for me, but  I did feel restricted with what I can eat.

Have you lost any weight since your lapband surgery?  Dont dispair we are here for you, someone on here will have some info or be able to offer a solution.

Hang in there,

Suzanne

Hi Suzanne

I did lose 19lbs in the first 3 weeks and I gained 4 back.  I cant say for sure that I could eat the same amount but I do know that I am not losing weight.  I am at BCIT for the next 7 weeks so maybe I could attend a meeting around here.  I am not sure how to find out where they are.  I will try to talk to Dr Amson but I wanted to hear some feed back first.  Maybe other people have gone through this.  I appreciate your support and I am not giving up yet.

Thanks

Julie

Hi Jaidyn,

I am so sorry to hear that you have been having some challenges, but I can assure you that you need another fill.  I swear to you that as soon as you get another cc or two in your Band, you're hunger will lessen, stuff will get stuck and you'll be AMAZED at the results.  Mostly you'll freak out because you'll be looking at things like steak and bread and say – 'That ain't gonna go down, no thanks.'

Restriction is when you can eat about three bites of something and say 'I'm done, no more for me.'  And then you'll look at yourself and not believe this is happening.

I lost weight because I aggressively pursued my fill and then went for another.  Hey, I spent 17 grand on this baby – let's work it!  Dr. Amson is pretty conservative with his first fills, especially if you live in the Victoria area.  He knew I lived in the middle of nowhere and gave me more for my first fill, but then I went to see Dr. Kluftinger and got another 1.5 cc's three weeks later when I was looking at corn syrup and frozen bread and considering eating it and BANG – RESTRICTION!!

Restriction is soooo important because when you work out like a fiend (which post-ops should aspire to) you get hungrier and with restriction, it makes it so much easier – like everything is pointed in the right direction and working for you.  I work out two hours a day (no kids and I don't work so what else can you do in Nowheresville?), but even if you have to go to school or raise kids, hopefully you can still make time to work out for an hour a day and SWEAT!  This is what will make you shed pounds even faster.

So, this is not a lecture, but just me imploring you to head back to Amson and have another fill.  You paid all this money for a Band, you may as well get your money's worth.

Please keep us posted – you can do this!

Jaidyn

If you are at BCIT  there is a weight loss surgery support meeting at Lions Gate Hospital   in North Vancouver tonight 7 pm, Seminar Room C down the hall from the gift shop.

There is a meeting for lap band but not sure when that is on top under resources is where all meetings are listed.
