Hello everyone,

I had my lap band surgery about 7 months ago and the weight loss has been up and down. I went 238 to 220 easily but then was always tired. Started on vitamin B shots as my GP checked my blood and noticed my level of B was low. The shots have helped a bit but still going. I worked every day and when I get home I just have no motivation to excercise. Also sometimes I get really tired and just want to go to bed like I did last night at 8:00 pm and slept 13 hours. But some nights I just sleep normal hours 7-8. Not sure if anyone else has had this issue and if you have can you give me advise as I'm disappointed in myself. I'm going to see Dr a in a couple of weeks as I need another fill as I don't feel full  as I read as others do.

Having the surgery was great and I don't regret it but I feel like I failed myself as i have no enrgy and motivation as this time.

Thank you for listening…….sue

Hi Sue,

What's your energy level like when you wake up? Do you often nap when you sit down?

Have you had this sleep problem before? I don't know what your expectations are for the amount of exercise you wish to do, maybe if you start out at a smaller increment it might help. Acceptance of where your at is better than putting yourself down. I think it is pretty normal to have periods when we are not on our game. Putting that extra pressure on ourselves about expectations may be too much. Stay in touch with your GP. Know that we are here for you. Chin up. Regards. Frances

Sue have you had your TSH levels checked. This checks out your thyroid. It is done with a blood test?

 Hi Sue

Welcome to the board, so glad you have come to join us,

Was your ferritin (Iron) checked as well?  As Frances said as well getting your thyroid checked would also be a good start.   Thyroid affects ones metabolism, and this could account for why the weight isn't coming off as fast or as much as you would like.  If you do find your thyroid is out, then you could ask to see a encrendonologist as well.  Have you ever been checked for sleep apnea, did you have an overnight oximetry test done to determine if you have sleep apnea?

It is very hard to get motivated when you are this tired, what about getting up a little earlier when you may have more energy and exercising then, maybe putting on an aerobics tape since it is probably still dark outside when you get up, or going to your local gym before work.

Try maybe going for a walk on your lunch break as well.

Most of us are exhausted by the end of the day and it is more difficult to get movtivated once we sit down at the end of the day, when we are tired out.

Have you had fills done?  Maybe talk to your surgeon as well and get some feedback as to where he/she feels you should be and see if you can get a fill done.

Don't give up, try not to stress about it,  we all go through stalls and plateaus and it is so easy to get discouraged I've been there thinking the weight isn't coming off fast enough , but we have all had these and things will pick up again.   It's almost like getting your battery charged when it's running low, so you can get yourself motivated again.

Maybe change up what you are eating, so your body doesn't become accustomed to the same food, same routine see if that helps.  Have you checked the amount of calories you are consuming daily, and also are you getting enough water in.  Sometimes our bodies hold on to weight when they aren't getting enough fuel to let the weight come off.

Have you got a support group you attend, that you can share with others how you are feeling and get some good input and encouragement as well.

These are just a few suggestions I can think of that may help,

Try not to be disappointed in yourself as you are a work in progress, be gentle with yourself, and it's a journey that you are on,

We are here for you,  hang in there,

SuzanneSmile

Hi Suzanne and Francis,

Thank you for the feedback. Frances I do not usually feel refreshed in the morning and this all started a little after surgery. I can easily nap also since then.

I will get my Iron and thyroid checked as I've read that even if it's a bit low it can have effects.I never did get tested for sleep apnea. Maybe that's why I have shitty sleeps somedays.

I will get another fill soon and talked to Dr A to send me for blood test etc.I guess I should ask my GP instead when i go for my vit b shot.

You have both motivated me and should go to the meetings but I was never a group person. Are they still at the  general hospital on Helmcken??I will check the website.

I will look into working out in the morning as I don't mind getting up earlier. It's hard to work out in my home as the noise travells and all my floors are squeaky…haha and I don't want to wake up me teenage son and make him cranky…hahha

I will keep you updated on my blood test etc…and have a great Easter………sue

Thanks Jacque..

Do you get the burps when you've had too much? How much would you eat before it starts to back up?? Do you think I need a fill if I can eat quite a bit and not back up. Dry foods do get stuck though……….sue
