I just had my anesthesiologist appointment. It turned out to also be an ECG, Chest x-ray and blood work. I only saw the anesthesiologist for 14 seconds, even the receptionist said that was the fastest thing she had ever seen. I feeling a little nervous because no one even told me i had to have the other stuff done………..is this normal?? I keep finding out stuff i had not been told about, and to tell you the truth when i call the Doctors office the ladies (whom i am sure are over run with calls) get a little short with me………….needless to say i don't call much. Anyone else feel like this? I am hoping it all works out and i have no more surprises

Yeap, you're in the normal range of tests
Yeap, the ladies are a bit "short" when you call them
And yeap …you're going to have more tests…here's the short list: http://blazeonline.com/wls/forum/index.php/topic,141.0.html
Hints ….When you see Dr A, never leave the office without asking the receptionist about any other tests you might need. She'll check your records and the list and then tell you they will call you when they're scheduled. Always get the date for your next appointment before leaving

So as lie awake last night thinking about my surgery it came to me………
This is the first surgery that i have ever paid out of pocket for so why am i feeling like i have had no contact with the Doctor and have been the least informed of procedures and brushed off by staff at office?????? Isn't this a service i am purchasing from them, not a favor they are doing me???? I am spending a lot of money here and i am not feeling well taken care off!!! I get that a lot of people want this surgery and bug them all day, but they shouldn't take on more then they can chew. I could handle this neglect a lot better if i wasn't putting out 15500.00……………..i can't seem to shake this feeling!!!!!! Is this just cold feet??? And how come no one on this site has had Dr Tang???? Am i his first patient or something?????? UGH!!!

Dre, just wondering why you would be paying out of pocket for your surgery if you live in B.C. and having it done in B.C.???

Hi Dre:
I'm assuming you're getting the Band surgery which is not covered …..(not RnY which is covered by BC Med)
It could be post surgery jitters, but non the less, it is the way you're feeling. You might want to make a list of all the things you're feeling unsure of and go and have a talk with your GP. If they can't make you feel more comfortable, then by all means consider postponing your surgery and asking for another consult with Dr Tang before you go forward. Take your list of concerns with you and get him to answer them.
Any WLS is a BIG decision and should not be entered into until you're absolutely sure it's right for you. I know I had jitters during the last week before my surgery, but I also knew it was surgery or die. That makes the decision much easier. It's your body and as you pointed out your money, so do what feels best for you!!

I can only tell you the way it was for me. I got 5 days notice and even though I'd waited 2.5 years, I was freaked!! All of a sudden I had a million questions …Everything you've described is pretty much how I experienced it. I had LOTS of misgivings during the last week. It is after all a VERY BIG decision.
3years later it was absolutely the best thing I ever did

Hey Dre,
I was at Jubilee just yesterday and I too had no idea what was going on! I was just along for the ride. I saw the anastesiolgist for no longer than you and got all the blood work, chest xrays done and also met with the nurse and pharmacist.
I'm having my surgery on the 10th. What about yoU?

I had all those same tests, it was so quick BUT I never felt rushed or neglected in fact I was amazed at the royal jubelee staff's quickness and effecient use of time. I work in the health care proffession and I never take a client to an appointment without books, food and drinks even my I pod because waiting is a part of our system, it sucks. Your time is getting close and you are probably getting very jittery. I know the reality of my operation hit me when I was on the OR table and I thought what the **** am I doing. Then I got the sleepy shot and all was done and over with. You will be fine! Keep us posted

Hi Dre Dr. Amson is my Dr. but my cousin had Dr. Tang and is thrilled with her results. He is a fine surgeon, (he also does cancer surgeries) and he made her feel very comfortable. She is doing great and just had a 6 week check up and all is good. She will get her fill next visit.

Thanks for letting me know Kristy. I was just noticing that everyone on her had used Doc Amons. I think i have calmed down a bit and am look forward to Wednesday and the rest of my life. Do you know how long your cuz has to wait for her first fill? Others have said they had to wait 2.5 months? On lapbandtalk.com it sounds more like six weeks??

Hi I believe my cousin said he likes to leave it a bit longer than most. Having said that she is not hungry and has lost weight. Just do as you Dr. advises and you will be fine. You are in good hands.

Hi, I have heard that Dr. Tang is a wonderful surgeon and I believe you will be in excellent hands! It can be overwhelming when you are preparing for a band. I was suprised when I went for my anesthetist appt too and had to have the same things done that you did.
One thing that happened to me when I went for my anesthetist appt was office had told me to pay when I went the week before. When I got there the nurse told me not to pay and I would do that the morning of my surgery just in case it got cancelled for some reason. This made sense to me…until I got a phone call 2 days before my surgery day from the office and they told me that the hopspital needs to be paid in advance and they had to have the payment by 11 am that day or my surgery could get cancelled. Well, I was pretty upset by that but luckily was able to call in a credit card to settle everything up. Then a fellow bandster told me that she had prepaid and when she was in the OR ready to go under, a nurse came in and asked if she had paid. She had of course but they needed to see the receipt! So someone had to go to her locker and get the receipt out of her purse for her. So, make sure you have your receipt when you go in just in case. I actually stopped at the cashiers desk on my way in to ensure everything was settled, and it was.
The surgery went really well and I am SOOOOO happy I had it done. It was worth every penny and I would do it agan in a heart beat. For the first time in a long time I feel so hopeful and I already feel so much healthier. It is an amazing thing. I have lost 32 pounds and I had my surgery in June so I am on track with a 1-2 pound/week weight loss.
All the best too you!! Lynn

Yeah Kristy and Dre!! Two more fellow bandsters to be!!
It's been almost one year and I am down 104 pounds. I never thought I could lose weight and keep it off. I tried many times before the band…. It was lose, and then gain, and then gain some more. The lap band works!! If you exercise, eat healthy and get fills when you need them the band works beautifully!
Please keep us posted and let us know how you are doing. I am so excited for you both! I wish you both a speedy recovery and all the very best. :D Barb
