Hello all you banders … I am doing some research and was wondering if any of you could tell me why you chose the band?
Thanks!

I chose the band mostly because of the adjustability. I had heard of quite a few bypass people who regained weight and I wanted more control. Also because it was completely reversible if need be. And the fact of "no dumping" and malabsorption issues. You get the benefit of everything you eat. Also a much less complicated surgery than bypass. And a lot less wait. I was 60 when I decided I needed intervention and so no time to waste!

My reasons are much the same as skinnysue. My main reason was reversibility and adaptability. You can reverse it if there are complications, and you can adapt it to how fast you want to lose. And since having it, I have realized that even though I do not tolerate some foods as well, like spicy or rich foods, I can still eat pretty much anything. I don't have to peel the skins off my grapes…. I like it that if I go to a Christmas party, I can eat what others are eating, only much less of it, rather than have to worry about whether I'm going to suffer "dumping" and all that. For me, the results have definitely been worth the cost. I'm well on the way to what I used to be…not without some bumps, but it's still worth it.

Hi
All of the reasons SkinnySue & Janice said . I also was 59 and it was a 60th birthday present to myself. I did not like the thought that I would have to be in line for 4 or 5 years. I also liked knowing that I could go out for a meal with my husband and just eat light.
However saying that I did it as my BP was high and I was a type 2 diabetic with sleep apneia
Now no BP meds or Diabetic meds still working on more weight to come off for the sleep apneia but it has improved. I can do 5 hours of cardio a week no problem and hike with my husband for 3 or 4 hours at a time, which I love.
Yes I would do it again in a heart beat.

Hi Megan,
I have chosen the Band because I simply can't wait any longer to start losing weight and I need medical help. I was on Amson's weight list for 3 years and with the cutbacks, it just never seemed like RNY was gonna happen.
Before I made my final decision to be banded I found out that I won't have malabsorption issues, no body parts will be re-arranged per se, and also that I'll still have to be careful with sweets (no milkshakes from McDs or pop from now on). All of this was okay with me and my doctor even volunteered to do my fills for me, so that should be positive after care.
Did you make your decision yet?
