Has anyone been watching the first few episodes on A&E?  (Monday nights at 7 pm PST).  I think it is much better than the Biggest Loser – what do you guys think?

It seems less mean spirited and competitive than the Biggest Loser, no big cash prize (that we know about), more supportive with the Personal Trainers and the fact that the contestant is paired with one person who is your support buddy for 6 months.

Also, less commercials and they get to the weigh-in's a hell of a lot faster than the NBC show.

Just one question though:  Did you think it odd that last night's participant (Jodi Van Kessel) was given skin removal surgery (stomach) after she lost just 50 pounds?  She started out just under 300.  My husband pointed out that she was carrying almost all of her weight in her stomach, so it seemed a logical operation to have.  I just thought that most plastic surgeons wouldn't operate on someone for that until a goal weight is met and the weight was kept off for a certain period of time.  I guess in America you can buy anything.

Also – while Jodi (on the show) was having stomach surgery, do you think she got her breasts done too?  At the final weigh-in they looked awfully perky and small.  (I guess I am just envious as mine are around my belly button now).

Anyways – I thought it was a great show that didn't take two painful hours to get through and was sorta made in the style of Intervention or Hoarders and worked well…love to hear your thoughts.

Hey! I am a fan of the show for sure. I feel like it's more realistic than Biggest loser because life on the ranch isn't like everyday life. On this show they send them home so they can try it on their own and then send them back if and when they are having troubles keeping up with food and exercise. Last show though when Jodi had the skin removal I was thinking "wouldn't it be more logical to wait until she's at her goal weight?" my thinking is that she'll just have to have another one later, but you're right…in the states you can buy anything you want. I did notice her boobs too!!!!! I was wondering about them, because at her age, and having had been over weight as well as having a child, and then losing weight..her boobs should have been halfway to her knee's by now!!! So I definately think her boobs were touched up a little…but nontheless, when it's skin removal surgery you're trading skin for scars!!! although I can sympathise with her because I know what it feels like to try to run with a large stomach swinging away…so I can see why she did it when she did it.!!
Regardless, I LOVE THIS SHOW! It inspires me for sure.

Hey!!

Yes I do watch Paul Plaka's show X Weighted too!! I love watching shows to do with weight loss to get ideas for the gym! lol. But with him I find that he doesn't fully understand weight issues, but he is a great trainer and would love to do the show if i didnt have to broadcast my weight number to all of canada!!!!! lol!

I really like "I used to be fat" on MTV, it's awesome and is pretty realistic as well!

Paul Plakas is generally great, but you're right he is a bit of a hard-a$$.  But, I think he's heard every excuse in the book and if your asthma kills you when you're doing the fitness test, then so be it.  I notice they almost always have paramedics standing by now.  In one episode, he had a woman with fibromyalgia and he told her that it was an imaginary disease.  That was pretty balls-y.  Although he eased up on the woman who was diagnosed with breast cancer while she was in his program.

Whenever I watch that show – I always wish that he would come to my house and clean out my fridge and take me on a death march up the Grouse Grind – sigh.
