I'm finding that http://www.dailystrength.org/c/Gastric-Bypass-Surgery/forum is a great resource, it has some misinformation but it's filled with good info too. Please keep posting here too. I also found a video of the procedure itself, it's not for everyone but for a med-nerd like me it sure was an eye opener. I have not received nutritional advice for pre-surgery. I have a phone consultation with the nutritionist on the 30th but it would have been nice to have had a bit more hand holding these last couple of weeks. The weight loss surgey cookbook for dummies is quite good by the way. Anyone know the best way to go about asking if I can stay in the hospital for an extra day or two?

I asked Elsa and she said the stay after surgery is forty-eight hours so you will be in at least that long. I am also brushing up on my soft food options I been waiting so long I forgotten everything I knew I was so ready at the two and three year mark and then lost hope when the surgery cuts came that I didn't think it was going to happen. Jeff: I had Dr. Amson for my surgery and I asked him if I could stay an extra day, especially that I was from out of town and he gave permission for that to happen. You might also want to see him in the office when you get discharged from the hospital, just before you come home. I wish you the best. Looking forward to hearing about all of your firsts. Frances

The meeting with the anestheologist went really well, a ecg, 2 xrays, and seven vials of blood later, I got to meet him and had some question addressed, looks like I'll be taking my nightly and morning meds as usual.
Tomorrow at 9:30 is the internest: don't the name fool you, He's doing a butt scope. I've been fasting and drinking picolax all day and I have a bottle of magnesim citrate or something to drink tonight. Luckily they let me on the plane with it.
Oh one note, for the bloodwork they wanted me to fast (water only), luckily I had been. Spread the word to help avoid mess ups.
I'm only stayng two blocks from the hospital but still they insist I take a taxi after my scope because I'll be quite out of it.
-Thanks for the tips everyone. Here's mine: buy chocolate, or teas, or a card, for the nurses, nothing that smells though.

I was supposed to be in for four days but they kicked me out after three. When I started walking up stairs they read me the riot act and said I could go home. If you are in any pain, ask for meds, if you can't sleep, ask for meds. The nurses will take great care of you so be nice to them. Walk as soon as you can get up and moving about. Plan on a couple days of rest after you get back to where you are staying. Enjoy the experience – after such a long wait it will soon be behind you and you will be on the loser's bench.
Good wishes.

So it turns out the piece of paper I was mailed did NOT have colonoscopy underlined. It was (suposed to be) crossed out. That was the form for the colon prep for before the surgery on Monday. NOT a pre for when I saw the internist today:( So I broke my toilet here needlessly. I also messed my bed last night. Oh well at least I'm good to go now. I just have to fast (water only) until Monday and all should be good. They really should have their own specialized packet. Also the internist only had access to the test done here. I had to recount everything from back home, which he wrote down with pen and paper. One of my medications was messed up for just that reason, the anastesologist had mis written something and didn't double check with me. WHY DON'T THEY HAVE ACCESS TO ALL MY MEDICAL RECORDS? So to all those out there get a copy of your medical records and carry them and hard copies of any tests you do with you at all times for appointments. Now for a weekend of fasting and a plumber's bill to pay.
