I have an appointment with my GP tomorrow and another with Dr. A on friday, I was thinking that I should get my GP to do a set of blood tests – Are there any bariatric specific blood tests I should ask for?  I know iron is an issue so that would be one of them.

When do we start with our post-op blood work???  I know that I had a bunch done in the hospital but don't know what it was or really what the results were.

First visit with Dr. Tang December 2009, second visit June 2010.  Switched to Dr. Sampath, first visit April 2011.  RNY done on October 17, 2011!!!  HW:260 SW:232 CW:176.5 (March 31/12) GW:150

I had my surgery in June and I had my first set of post op blood work done in Sept at 3 months out. It was very thorough and they took 14 vials for various tests. I go back again in Jan for 6 month blood work not sure what the frequency is after that. I also had a bone density test done in October which will be my baseline as I have never had one of those before. I believe that I don't have to do that again until 2 years from now to see what, if any, changes take place. It is a good idea to have the bone density test done asap so that you can be aware of any changes early on. Hope you are all healing well and loving your new life! I know I am for sure. 76lbs lighter in 4 months (almost 5) is pretty awesome I think :)

Cheers

Wow!!!  Congrats on your weight loss!!!  I am 8 days past surgery and down about 7 lbs.  (30 since I started seeing dr. sampath in april).  I'll have to ask my doc about the bone density test when I see him again next week.
