I am now 11 months post op and down 90 lbs….another 60 to go!

I have been fairly lucky so far and ony had one slight cold right after surgery last December….at that time I was told to use ColdFx which I did! But now I have a good one and I am up coughing all night…..is there any cough syrup we can take? I haven't taken any yet but it is driving me up the wall……I even missed 3 days of work this week(I never do that!) REALLY need some suggestions!

I can't name any brands off the top of my head, but your pharmacist will know which ones are completely sugar-free and contain no NSAID's.  Unless you are on some prescription medication then those are the two things to worry about.

Im not sure if people who are post op can take codein but if you can a couple of acetominophen with Codeine that you can buy over the counter from any pharmacy will also work to stop the cough.  I know this because I have asthma and am not allowed to use a cough suppressant as it can make my asthma worse.  However the codeine stops the coughing without affecting my asthma.  The only down fall is it works a little slower than a cough medicine.

Roxeanne, Codeine is fine post-op….  in fact, those of us who were done open are sent home with a prescription for T3's….  very very constipating for some though.  Might want to avoid it, or take measures to prevent it if you're not sure!!

Yeah Shari it can be very constipating for some.  It doesnt seem to affect me that way.  I just know it is my saving grace when I have a cold as it doesnt affect my asthma.

Post-op constipation is very different than pre-op.  People who never had that problem pre-op can be plagued with it post-op.  Keep it in mind for later!!
