Just had abdominal tripple open sugey but I came home from hospital early. I am very bruised on the left side of my hernia surgery, may go into the walk in clinic to make sure this is okay.
My mother was admitted to hospital last Sunday went to see my mom she is not eating or drinking and refusing all medications.
She is really out of it with her vascular dementia, her potassium being low, she has a blood clot in her lunng, emphysima, and bronchitis and a mass in her adrenal gland which they won't operate on as they said she may not come out of surgery.
I'm glad I had my hernia surgery done, Im very sore came back yest as my mom's condition has worsened late this week, she is no longer speaking and is not eating or drinking.

Suzanne,
I am sorry to hear about your Mom. That is hard to take when they become ill. I wish you a quick recovery make sure you take time for yourself to heal properly, especially after hernia surgery. Were your hernias a result of your bypass surgery? All the best to you.
Cheers

Thank you.
My mom had a stroke a month after my gastric bypass surgery in February 2009, then she continued to have strokes and was diagnosed with vascular dementia and had to go into a care home at 73 yrs old. I was trying to help straighten out my parents place with my husband, and go through things throwing stuff out that they didn't need an simplyfing things and I guess I did it to soon after surgery. Then got two more hernias on top of the first one. My mom was placed as pallitive about a month ago, and she is not eating or drinking much so the prognosis with everything else going on with her as well it is not looking very good.
Least I am back in town as I had my hernia surgery in Victoria on Thursday and came back Friday morning.

I'm glad to hear you had your hernia repair finally! I was suppose to do my on Thursday too, but we had to reschedule as they wanted me to see a blood specialist first.
I'm really sorry about your mom :( It sounds like she's near the end now and that usually goes quickly. Sometimes it's much easier and better for everyone that way. My thoughts are with you!

Glad to hear you are home and at least starting to feel better. Sorry about you mom. My mom just broke her hip a couple of weeks ago and that is the thing that means she will have to move into a care home. I hope things work out for you okay soon. My best thoughts are for you.

Hi Suzanne
My hernia repair surgery was done open, and I have dissolving stitches, I would ask your doc about the staple.
I think when I had my gastric bypass surgery my staples came out between 12-14 days after, see what your gp says.
I am having a lot of pain on the left side especially from my hernia surgery, same amount of pain as right after surgery and it's been three weeks so I believe I need to get this checked, very very swollen, bruising has gone away though.
I haven't had much time to rest since my surgery, as moms condition dropped she had a seiure on the Friday after my surgey, so I had to come home quckly day after, then they said nothing more they could do for her, so we made the decision to take her from hospital back to the care home for whatever time she has left. Day after she was back from the hospital her breathing went laboured, colour turned to grey and she was put on oxygen and didnt wake up that day.
Then last Saturday same thing happened laboured breathing, put her on oxygen, she was not awake couldnt wake her and the nurse said her pulse was getting weaker and weaker, her blood pressure was 105/63 when I left the care home last Saturday.
So we are taking things day by day she is listed as palliative, with cancer in the adrenal gland, liver and ducts enlarged, blood clot in the lungs, and emphysima and she is just on pain meds to keep her comfortable now and not eating much in the way of food, and tiny amount of liquid during the day.
Thanks for the email, hope you are healing well from your surgery

OOPS! Major typo lol! ELEVEN staples!!!! Not 1!!
I called my GP and they said 7-10 days, so when the office calls about my INR (doing herparin shots for five days) I'll book a time to get them removed then.
What kind of meds are you on for the pain? They gave me tramset (sp?) and I went to my GP the next day and said they're as useful as baby asprin! So he gave me percect/oxy, which works MUCH better! I'm suppose to do 4/day but am only on my 2nd one today. Was feeling really good this morning, but just came back from the mall and driving did not help with the twisting!
Any change on your mom? Have you spoken to a social worker from the hospital or home to see what resources are out there? I'm thinking of you *hugs*

Wow I had dissolving stitches for my hernia repair surgery. My RNY I had staples.
Im going to get a ct scan as seen doc on Tuesday believes that I have a tare in my hernia repair, not sure what happened will know after the scan is done. It is very swollen and extremely painful on the left side.
Im on stronger pain meds now because the pain from the left side is very strong.
My mom we almost lost her three times and she has come back from a seizure in hospital, while I had my surgery, then two times her bp and pulse dropped, she was put on oxygen and had fluid on her lungs, but rallied through. She is not eating much these days, as she is not able to eat without having tremendous amount of pain. She is palliative and the specialist came in on Monday they are keeping her comfortable until she does pass away, said its a matter of time.
It is amazing the strength my mom has to still be here day after day, but sad as well as she is in a lot of pain, controlled by meds, she is now bedridden and isnt in a gerichair anymore as anytime they move her she cries out from pain.
Thanks for asking about my mom, it has been very hard to see her in this condition, she has lost so much weight, that her dentures are too lose in her mouth so had to take them out, and she has sores in her mouth, we got her oral gel, poor lady she looks like a little doll in the bed.
My dads health is now starting to turn as well, he goes for a colonoscopy beginning of August.
They asked me last week if I needed or wanted to talk to someone, I told them I have a strong faith and that is getting me through but I do have my moments where I break down into tears. I have a great group of friends and family that have been supporting us through this.
Thanks for thinking of me,
Suzanne

I have to have a drain put in from my hernia surgery, the drain and tube was put in Friday and will be in for several days, as I developed a seroma (blood) so it was drained on Wednesday and a drain was put in on Friday. Have to go back and get it checked and cleaned and flushed daily.

Well the raiologist at the hospital here said I can probalby have the drain taken out tomorrow and I'm glad about that, still have pain because as he said the tissues have to join back together where the blood was pooling hopefully this sreoma doesn't come back. I want to get to the point where I can be healed and get on to the next chapter in my life.
One of my closest friends from our church passed away tonight, she had cancer and was in the palliative unit for quite a while. Another friend had taken her in like a mom and care for her, she had a strong faith and never waiver and ended up encouraging others around her.
Also my close friends her uncle died on Sunday night so my husband and I drove her out (the long way) to Hope where her family lives. We left North Vancouver at 6:30 got there at 10:30 traffic was crazy as the Trans Canada was closed so we had to take a different route. Just got home now.
My mom is stable for now but still palliative.
Thats it about for me for now.
Wishing everyone a very Happy Canada Day

Suzanne,
I am sending you positive energy and hoping that things get better real soon for you. Sounds like you've had your fair share of pain in the last little while and you are still there for others when they need you. I am wishing you a speedy recovery and strength to get through this difficult time in your life. You obviously are a strong person. Keep your chin up life throws us curve balls every now and then but it's how you deal with them that counts. Hugs!!

Thank you for all your emails, well wishes and prayers for me, my mom and our family means a lot to me, more than words can express. Im greatful to each one of you in our wls family.
Yesterday I got the drain out… yippee…. I was so happy… I felt like I was on a leash so to speak… having this thing attached to my stomach, tube and drain.
I keep looking in the mirror making sure I don't swell up again, the radiologist said that the tissues (he did an ultrasound yesterday) are coming together well so I should heal. I have heard you can have another hematoma but I'm hoping to be an exception to the rule so to speak and be done with this.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend,
Suzanne
