Hair Loss after 2 Years of Surgery Date

Hi Everyone,

I have a quick question and hope you can help.  I had the "usual" hairloss just after my surgery at the end of 2008 and then it stopped..Or so I thought.

I have really thick hair but a couple of weeks ago I noticed that the hair in the front (between my forehead and crown) was thinning out.  I thought it was just how I had my hair and changed my style but last night someone noticed again that my hair is really thinning out in that area and you can see my scalp no matter how I do my bangs :(

Has this happened with anyone else after two years!!  I am freaking out and now very selfconscious that someone at work might notice it too..

Any suggestions??

thanks so much for your help in advanceCry

Maybe you should try to take a vitamin E as a supplement … Just an idea….

It's quite common after surgery  Some people have said to take Biotin I am still pre-op so I can't say personally if this helps or not. Paige

i am two years post op too and had the initial hair loss at that time. i started taking biotin and silica daily and my hair grew back but found that soon after stopping, my hair began to thin out in my bangs area. i have been taking the supplements forever since. when i run out and dont make it to the vitamin shop in time i notice immediately that more hairs are in the drain so i try to always have them and take them every single day. bonus, biotin helps to break down carbs and fats! good luck :)

Wow – thanks so much for the tip!  Just went to the Health Food and Vitamin Store and purchased:

- Biotin (aka Vitamin H or B7) – contains Silica

- Folic Acid

- B5 (Pantothenic)

- Zinc

- MSM (Organic Form of Sulphur)

After the last post – did some research to see if anything interacts with take Warfarin (blood thinners) and found that Horsetail / Silica does, but I get my blood checked each week anyways, so will give it a try.

Very excited about this!

I used this website that the University of Maryland Medical Centre (UMMC) has that shows herb and supplement information and drug interactions.

Oh WOW! I am going to look into this silica thing. I have taken Biotin since day 1. I had the initial hair loss as well. And I noticed in the shower the other day a few strands of hair and I was thinking "Nooo, not again", LOL! I am a faithful vitamin taker so I know it's not lack of not taking my vitamins. I am going to check out the silica. I need to get my bloodwiork done but so far everything has been right on. Silly hair losing, hehe

I have had MAJOR hair loss (unfortuantly ONLY on my head darnit!) its not so much noticiably thinner (like no bald spots) but my I can use a little mini elastic on my pony tail now where as I could barly get a second wrap with a normal size one.  I'm actually going in on Thursday to have my hair cut off (to a bob)….seeing if that will help.

My doctor said Iron……I have anemia and so he upped my iron and told me to take Vitamin C with the iron as it help it to abosorb better.

I havent noticed a difference yet with the iron…..so I'm thinking I'm going to go get me some Biotin!

I take (2) 3000mcg Biotin tablets, and (2) "Hair and Nails" capsule daily (1 of each in morning and one of each after supper). The products I buy are by Nature's Bounty and are available at Shopper's Drugmart. Hair and Nails is a capsule that has Silica (Horsetail), and Biotin in it (but not enough Biotin). I started noticing more hair on my brush at about 3 months post op and immediately started this regime. I swear by it. It does take a few weeks to really notice it but once you take it consistently you will see a difference. Some people say that there is nothing that you can do about the hair loss, and maybe for some people, unfortunately this is the case. For myself it really worked and I would recommend it.

Cheers
