HEy Shelley

I too have given in to the stresses and gained back some of the weight that I had lost.  Iknow my story is a little different as I am still pre op.  Try not to beat yourself up for it.  You will get it off again.  Also check the side effects of the meds you are on.  Sometimes they can cause weight gain.  Know you are loved and I know you can regain the control and will do great.

This is something I always stress and worry about. I recently joined Weight Watchers just for more accountability and knowing I have to weigh in each week. I have not gained any back (sometimes I am up 5 pounds but I know its from not drinking enough water) but I am also fighting to get to goal so my situation of course would be a lot different than most post ops!

I have discussed this with my doctor quite a few times. I have expressed how disappointed I am in myself. My doctor reminds me that I had to start at the opposite end of the scale than most having been roughly 360 pounds over weight to begin with. I still need to lose 100 and I worry it will never come off since my honeymoon period is long gone. Journaling does keep me in check with myself though. I know for me weight watchers has it benefits (I know its not for everyone) but for me its more of an accountability thing.

So I can understand and feel your frustration Shelley. I know you can do it!

Thanks so much Carrie and Suzanne!!

Have been so stressed with having a spouse being diagnosed with cancer and my cat having just died unexpectedly with it as well!  I found that i turned to comfort food….so just goes to show…our bowel was altered not our emotional needs….darn….

Now must go to the gym and walk the talk…..thanks for your support…..I have seen several post-ops regaining and I had no idea how easy it was!!!

…and what is scary is that I can not eat the quantity like i used to but even the wrong food choices DOES make the difference….

HEY  POST-OPS out there… how are you all doing…over 3 years????? How are you maintaining???

Hey Shelley!

Your situation is not very cool right now. It is easy to go back to wrong foods, bad habits.

I'm glad that you go to the gym. Can you also put on the fridge 2 things.

1- a picture of Shelley pre-op

2- a picture of Shelley now.

When you will open that door you will be reminded of where do you don't want to be.

You can't control the situation, however I think that this will help you put food in perspective with your quality of life.

Good luck.

J.

Carrie,

As always you are touching me.

You know that you are a role model for many of us? I remember thinking that I will eat popcorn eventually as a post-op because you were! (Do you still do?)

You must realize that you have already lost …me! Almost. I was 253 at my surgery.

So you have lost, not what I need to lose, but me, me entirely! ok ok, without the hair. So you have done amazingly good. I commend you for WW. That's a good idea. And you will succeed, give yourself time. In fact, how long did it take to put it there? So it is going fast to take it out!

Keep us inform on your progress!

Good luck with WW.

Julie

I also have gained some back. I feel like I woke up one morning and I was fat again. It happend over a year and it was back pain that got me. I was eating to comfort myself and really didn't realize how far I had slipped into the old bad habits.

I am back working out with help of pain meds. Trying to eat healthy and less food and better choices. It is so easy to put the weight on and so hard to take it off.

I am so mad at myself for letting this happen. After how hard I worked and how wonderful I felt. I said I would never let this happen.  Wow you really have to be strong and accountable for your own actions. I am paying for mine…..

I can totally relate to this Teresa.  In the past I have lost up to 65 pounds on my own (before WLS) and worked even harder to lose it than I did with my weight loss after WLS.  Then I gained back that 65, and 100 more just for good measure – wow was I ever angry with myself and there was nothing that could budge me to lose another pound until WLS.

This is an important post and topic because it reminds me and reinforces something that I said to myself today:  this whole thing takes CONSTANT VIGILANCE.  I was standing in the express line at Walmart and staring in the cooler at Ginger Ale and just felt like saying 'screw it' – I exercised today, I can drink – I want it….but I just knew that if I gave in to even one sip of Ginger Ale, Coke would be next and then all hell would break loose.

I guess what I am saying is that it is a slippery slope and I have to keep telling myself that – just like an alcoholic who thinks they can have a sip of champagne at a celebration and then deny themselves a whiskey the night after – not gonna happen.  So, pop is my trigger, I know that and I am staying far, far away from it.

All that being said, it is never too late even if you think it may be so.  Write down your trigger, stay away from it.  Write down what the tools in your tool chest are and start using them again.  Take a baby step today and two baby steps tomorrow.  Build on that.  Try to clear your head of the anger you have towards yourself and just say that you know better now and move on.  YOU CAN DO THIS!  In fact, it sounds like you already are….so, if it makes you feel better, many of us are in this situation or have been, but what should really make you feel better is that you recognized what was happening and moved to stop it.

Hi Shelly

Have you thought of trying to retrain your pouch with the five day test. I don't know if this will be of any value but it can't hurt.  Sorry to hear your husband is ill.  I know what kind of stress an ill family member can be.  Food like a drug feels better in the moment but just adds more stress in the end. Maybe try substituting a hot candle lit bath to destress or an exercise like boxing where you beat the tar out of bag to let out frustration grief  and anger over the situation.      wishing you the best.    Paige

Oh man Shelley,

I never got back to this thread. I have limited actual computer use for what seemed like forever but I am pretty much back! hehe. But I am so sorry for losing a dear pet and the problems with your hubby!!! I feel for you!!! (((hugs to you))) Keep keepin on! You can do it!

Julie: I hope you get back to this thread as I totally missed your response! You are so sweet! Yes I still do the popcorn thing but I really have limited it. I have dumped twice on fat free popcorn! But I am thinking it has more to do with not enough chews and it getting stuck in the pouch than with the pouch itself! I had 2 serious dumping episodes a couple weeks back. And I was like "WOW, my pouch does still work, YIIPPEEES, hehe!!! I was never a "dumper" but the odd thing sets me flying!

As for the 5 day pouch test! I have done this a few times and I really like it. It gets me back to the basics and is so helpful (in my opinion) anyhow!!! hehe
