One year ago I was given the opportunity to get my life back, to become healthy and see my children grow up. I shall be forever grateful to Dr. Amson, the RJH nursing staff for their excellent care, my friends, and my family for their unwavering support and encouragement on my journey thus far.
I want to thank you all too for not only your support, but all the excellent information and tips I have learned here over the past four years. This forum has been so informative and supportive. I cannot imagine where I would be now without it. So do me a favor and reach around and give yourselves all a big pat on the back from me. You deserve it!
I will forever be an advocate for WLS. I am an RN at UHNBC and the majority of physicians I work with have been incredibley supportive and very interested in my surgery (lap RNY) and journey. They have asked lots of questions and actually have taken down notes! My beloved family doctor, Nici Dreyer, was a total champion for me from the beginning of my quest for wls. Her husband and office partner, Dr. Viljoen, told me 8 months post op that I have changed his opinion of wls for the better. I am very saddened that they moved to the Okanagan in November 2010 (Lucky residents of Vernon!), but I continue to keep them updated by mail.
To those of you that are currently waiting for your wls, keep the faith! Keep advocating for yourself! Look at the possibility of OOC WLS. Ask lots of questions! Attend the wls support group meetings in your community. Support is so important! Waiting is so incredibley hard when you're ready to start your life anew, just as is keeping a positive attitude when you feel down and beaten to the curb by the lack of funding and access to wls. Just know that one day it will be your turn!
With gratitude to you all,
Lisa C.
