I was hoping to hear from fellow sleevers out there, to hear how they are doing, what problems if any they are having,  what weight loss they are experiencing, what success stories.

Surgery date Nov 18, 2010, lost 44 lbs to date but weight loss have so down considerably.     Having hard with keeping eating and drinking seperate.  Exercising 5 days a week, set a goal of walking in Victoria TC 10k in April.

What about you?

Hi Elizabeth.

I am anxious to hear your story and others.  I am currently still waiting for my surgery.  I did the Times Colonist 10K last April as a pre op.  It reall felt good to finish it.  Dr Amson says my surgery will be in the spring.  So if it happens close to the TC10K then I wont be doing it this year.  SO far I dont have a date  yet.  I am going to call his office on MOnday and ask if my file is on the desk as it should be.  I am assuming you had the surgery in 2009 not Nov 2010 as we havent gotten there yet. LOL! Well please keep writing about your experiences as I would like to hear all you have learned and experience.  The more I can find out pre op the better my success will be post op.

  Thanks for writing.

Hello everyone

I had my sleeve done on Nov 2. At this time I am down 60 lbs. I am back skiing again with my family and walking 5 days a week. I have so much energy. I have also gone from a size 24 (4X) to an 18!! is just awesome. I can eat most things now but spicy food sometimes gives me indigestion which before it never did and I love hot spicy food!Cry

How is everyone else doing out there?

I'm having my sleeve done tomorrow morning!  I can't believe I'm going to be on the other side this time tomorrow!

I'm a little nervous…surprised that the Pico-Salax wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, and not in the least tired.  I'm hoping I'm going to get the private room I requested, but I hear RJH has slim pickin's.

Hello All,

I'm awaiting surgery in the Spring as well  (if all goes as promised- no date yet though). I'm very curious though if there is 1-2 week pre-op liquid diet OR any other kind of preperation for this surgery?!

Hi Nora,

I did a clear liquid diet only a couple of days before surgery, you have to take pico salax to clean your system out before surgery and the only other prep was taking a shower twice and scrubbing yourself with medicated sponges.

I find I still get full have only a small amount of food, although is getting used to the smaller amounts as the weight is coming off slower.  Almost to the 50 lb weight loss, had to slow down on my exercise as I had a problem with spastic IT band but I think I have got it under control.

Anyone else with an update?

Hi,

I had the sleeve done in Sep, 2009. I've lost 44lbs so far, but nothing in the last 2.5 months. (Or rather I go down 5 lbs, then up 5 lbs) Is anyone else having this problem.. I'm getting a little down about this. Am I doing something wrong?

I'm 4 weeks out and doing great.  I'm down 30 lbs, and eating pretty much everything now (but only about 1/4 to 1/3 of a cup per meal)  Some things bother me.  I can not find a protein powder that will sit well with my stomach at all.  The only thing I can drink are the isopure protien drinks that are clear.  I'm getting about 500-600 calories a day, and exercising a few times a week.

I have had periods when I'm hungry, but I don't think it's physical hunger.  I miss snacking in the evening…the smell of the things my family eats tantalize me sometimes (like pizza), but I just CAN'T physically eat it.  If I eat more than my tummy can handle it feels really gross.

Hello,

I am down 52 lbs since my surgery in Nov, 29.  I am down 10lbs since I first posted in January.  I definitely finding it lot harder to loose weight than I anticipated. Although the doctors and my family tell me not to be so hard on myself, I am doing great.

I too go up and down with my weight.   I notice my weight loss depends on what I have eaten, the more foods I eat with a low carbs count, the more I loose. I have also found making sure I am getting enough protein in each day.

Cheers

Elizabeth

Hello all,

I am scheduled to have my surgery next week…I don't know if it's normal but I'm terrified.  I've waited almost 7 years for this and developed some medical issues along the wait and now that it's here, I'm scared….what if it doesn't work, what if something goes wrong?  I can't imagine not having my comfort foods, my friend…It's pretty sad isn't it?  I should be happy…whats going on?

I'm being very honest and putting myself out there….can anyone relate?

i am scheduled for sleeve surgery on january 12th with dr tang. i am not that nervous surprisingly as i thought that i would be terrified.

i would love to be in contact with other sleevers as i would love to find out what to eat the few weeks after surgery and some food to avoid. i have read a lot of stuff online, gotten books from the library and attended monthly support meetings for the last 2 yrs but most of it was towards the rny not the sleeve. there is only maybe 1 or 2 sleevers in nanaimo that i was told about so looking for some info.

i see the dietician the day before surgery which is an upset since i wanted to know more about what foods that i can buy before hand since we live on a monthly budget on my hubbies disability so we have to buy in quantities not weekly.

i have bought already 2 big cans of whey protein powder vanilla flavour frmo superstore, a few bags of almonds plain, and some jars of unsweetened apple sauce but not sure what else to stock up on.

thans for listening to my babbling and hope to hear back from some of you sleevers soon.

Yay, that date is coming up soon!  Congrats too!

I am having RNY not sleeve, but I would recommend getting some sugar free pudding and adding some unflavoured protein powder to it.  I just bought a huge tub of it at Extra Foods, a branch of SuperStore.  It was $30 for whey protein.  I plan on adding that to soup, pudding, apple sauce, chilli and anything else that I can think of.

I too don't see my NUT until the Friday before my Monday surgery.  I am having it in Seattle so I guess I will shop for specifics on the weekend.

Hope some fellow sleevers pop in to give some tips :)

Buy low fat, low sugar yoghurt – ie Source brand.  Pick up unflavoured soy protein powder from health food stores – cheaper.  Then yoghurt and soy protein powder = breakfast.  Add some ground flax or whatever for extra vits. …..  You can start looking at different flour substitutes – ie. coconut flour, almond flour, soy, spelt etc. if you are wanting to stay away from flour, pasta, potatoes, rice.  Check out theworldaccordingtoeggface.com.  Search on google for 'wls recipes' and you will find a lot of recipes and sites that give  you good healthy alternatives.

You might want to look at protein powders at stores where body builders buy their stuff.  Their protein powders are superior, flavours better and a lot more variety in actual flavours.  Get a shaker cup with a whisk in it and use it to quickly mix a drink up.

SmileWatch out for the nuts; ….yes they are `good`fat but still fat, so if you eat them fairly regularly your weight loss will probably be slower.  Imitation chicken (IE chicken nuggets made out of soy) are really good and high in protein.
