Hello. Are there any new "sleevers" out there? Are you following the food plan for lap banders? I've just finished my 3 weeks of blenderized food and started on my soft food plan today. Yay! Now I have to put my brain around different kinds of food, but I'm happy to do that. I have to make sure I don't eat more than I am supposed to though. Not that it could be too easy to do as I am full on a scrambled egg, but you never know. I guess it's still important to measure food.
It's hard to believe I am 3 weeks out! I am so thankful it is all over and I am on my way to my new life. I am thankful for Dr. Amson's expertise, I was so glad knowing my doctor was soooo good and had done so many of these surgeries – it really lessened my worry.

Hi Audrey:
I too am pre-op. Please do continue to post as I would love to hear your progress and any other info you have to offer.
Wanttobe
P.S. Roxanne I met you in Dr. A office in Feb. I was the lady who sat directly across from you. Maybe we will have our surgeries together? How long have you been waiting if you don't mind me asking? Email me if you want to talk personal.

HEy Brenda
How are you doing since your surgery? Is there anything different that you can tell us about the Sleeve compares to the RNY. How have you dealt with the being able to eat anything? How much have you lost? How long has it been? I am always eager to talk to others who have had the Sleeve.

Hi guys … at my last app't with Dr. A he mentioned that if he was unable to do the bypass, he wanted to know if I would be OK with the sleeve. I told him that I knew very little about the surgery, but I trusted his medical opinion etc … I went home and did some research into it and find that I am leaning towards the sleeve vs the bypass now.
I have been wanting to meet people who have had the sleeve (I live in Victoria) so that I could pick their brain, but so far no luck.
I am curious why the rest of the pre-ops in this section have decided on the sleeve? And the post-ops … how are you doing? How much weight have you lost? Would you change the surgery that you had? Are you happy with your decision?
Thanks so much!

Hi Megan
I have chosen to have the sleeve because thier are less risks involved for me. I have Chronic Renal Failure and one of the risks with RNY is possible kidney stones. Well kidney stones for me could mean either the life or death of my kidneys or having to have the RNY reveresed. Neither of which seem like good ideas to me. The other thing that I like is that with the sleeve there is no malabsorption so no need for all the vitamins. Just a multivitamin to help supplement your nutrition because you eat so little. Also I was very worried about dumping because I have a stomach that once it starts throwing up it has a hard time stopping and this leads to serious problems for me. From what I know the downside of the sleeve for most people is that there is no dumping so you have to be extra careful what you eat. Nothing to deter you from eating the wrong things. Also the weight loss tends to be a little slower than with the RNY. The sleeve is not reversible either because they actually take out part of the stomach. Not just section it off. So it is a very individualized decision and has to be made on a case by case decision. I know without a doubt that the Sleeve is the right decision for me and I am excited for when my turn comes. Good luck on your search and in your decision process. Let us know what you decide.

Hi,
I'm new to this site. I can't believe I didn't know about as I have been playing the waiting game for almost 4 years now. I have my surgery in 3 weeks!! I've decided on the sleeve as the malabsorption issues really concerned me. Generally, I don't eat bad, just too much. Dr. Amson suggested the sleeve saying it would be less risky for me. And if it didn't achieve the result I wanted, then he would do the RNY later. I love the term "sleevers". I was just thinking how much better that was then "dumpers". LMAO. Anyway, love to hear from people that have had the sleeve. I live in Prince George so if any of you live close, would love to meet sometime.

Hey everyone. I am also playing the waiting game for the sleeve. Would really love to hear how some are doing after having it and there progress. I am from Kelowna and havnt met anyone here who has had the sleeve. I know 2 people one had the band and the other the gastric bypass. When I went to see Dr.A I had the gastric bypass in mind until we spoke and discussed the risks and everything that comes along with both. All infos and inputs would be awesome. To those who have had the procedure good luck and to those waiting still maybe Kevin Falcon will kick somemore funding in cause BC does need it.

Hi to all,
Had my surgery on Monday the 14th of September along with Carol and Vicki…….so I am on day 7… Haven't had much of an appetite, stayed in hospital until Wednesday evening and then went home. I am not sure if any one else suffered with such severe headaches for the first four days like I did or am I an abnormality? Doing okay though, just taking it a little slow…..had some wild and crazy dreams. Curious as to how you two ladies are doing? How were the trips home? Anyways, take care all and chat again soon.

Hi I am new sleever, had my surgery on Nov 18th by Dr. Amson. I was in the hospital overnight and then release to home. The first couple of days had me questioning what I had done but now seems to settling down. I am eating roughly about 1/2 c of food about every 3hrs. The hardest thing to cope with was waiting for hour after eating to drink and dealing with head hunger.
I have so far lost 27lbs. to date and am doing well.

Hi I also had my sleeve done by Dr. Amson on Nov 18th. I know there were 3 of us done that day (all sleevers) . The hospital staff at Royal Jubilee were so unbelievable. Every nurse that came by to check on me was so kind. They were all very understanding and caring. It made the whole experience alot easier!!
So far I am doing okay. The first couple of days were hard to deal with but now I am fine. I eat about 6 times a days, 1/2 c. per serving. I am down 19 lbs in 2 weeks. I find it hard to drink 8 cups of water a day. I feel I am always putting something in my mouth..food, then water, food, water, etc…every hour I am doing something!
Hope I continue to not have any problems.

I have move on to soft foods now and food is beginning to taste like food now. Still only eat about 1/2 cup and trying to stick to protein and veggies/fruits. Still doing well and having no problems.
Have join a gym to next week I can begin to exercise in earnest beside my walking.
