Hi there. I was on the list for some time for the RNY but stopped the process for many reasons, nuff said.
I have decided to re-focus and look into the possibility of the Vertical Sleeve with a new doctor. I know I will have to wait and that is not a big problem as long as I am not lied to on a regular basis.
Does anyone know if Dr. Malik does this surgery. I have an appointment with my GP next week and hopefully he will give me the referrel. I have had all my proceedures done with the exception of the scope so that won't be a problem.
Anyway … I'm going to hang around here and try to find out as much information as possible. I'll be searching the web constantly looking for info to make this a positive experience.

No, Dr. Malik does NOT do the sleeve. With this being said, I still went with him and opted for the RnY. I have never looked back. Dr. A had told me that he would do the sleeve on me and he would have me done asap but I still opted for the RnY.
I really felt that this was the way to go for me. Do all your research and figure out what is best for you. Can you be very diligent on what you eat? I can't. With the sleeve, you can still eat whatever you want…there is no dumping. I need the scare.
I found Dr. Malik to be an excellent surgeon and do highly recommend him.
Once you have all your tests done, you are good to go and go on the list for surgery. If I recall correctly, you have most if not all your tests done…so you would be good to go. You would jump the line a bit. I have also heard of him jumping people up that need the surgery right away due to other health issues. I personally feel that you would be one of them.
I do think your best bet is to go with Dr. Malik but once again…it would be the RnY. Dr. A's wait list is just getting longer and longer.
Remember, these are only my opinions. You have to consider all options and do what is best for you.

Hi Jodi … thanks for the reply. Yes, I have everything done with the exception of the Scope .. that was scheduled but I cancelled.

My biggest concern with the RnY was all the pills. I had throat cancer a number of years back and I have a great deal of difficulty with pills. There's just so much about it that scares the dickens out of me.
So if I want the Sleeve my only option is Dr. A or go out of town?

I believe that Dr. Tang also does the sleeve. I'm not sure about his wait list but I'm thinking it is quite long as well. It might not hurt to phone their office and ask. Then you know who to get the referral to.
So when did you first start seeing Dr. A? I'm thinking that you may be able to use your original start date with him and not have to start the journey all over again. Did Dr. A book your scope? Usually, it is not long after that that you get your date.
Maybe…you might want to stay with Dr. A then and bring all your documents. He has also been known to bump people up. Someone was just done that only waited MONTHS and not years like others. Its worth a try:)

Cool!
When I was going through the process, he wasn't doing the sleeve. But, that was 6 months ago and he was also in the midst of taking over for Dr. Rusnak.
I would phone and confirm with Kara (Dr. Maliks nurse) that he is doing them and then get your referal into see him.

I'm so confused …  LOL
I'm sure I'll work it out. At the moment just researching the sleeve.
I'll accept any comments and suggestions.
I do know this however .. this is going to be my last kick at the cat!

This is not necessarily accurate anymore. I had my scope in December 2009 that Dr Amson booked and was just recently told I had at least another year to wait. Going to seriously talk to Dr Amson about this when I see him in April.

I have known people who have had the sleeve and they have been just as successful. It's nice to have options though at the same time.
I think you are on the right path and doing research. It's nice that Dr. Amson is doing the sleeve now as another option. I would try and get in to see both drs and then make your decison from there :)
I know you have been waiting a very loooong time and I sure hope you can somehow not lose your place and get done quickly.

Dr. Tang 's wait is definitely not as long as Dr. Amson's and is probably comparable to Dr. Malik's. I have heard different things about him on this site, but my experience was positive except for some confusion about surgery last spring.
