Well I saw Dr Amson today. I am Feeling slightly hopeful again. I mentioned to him how dissapointed I was when he told me my surgery would be this spring and Elsa (Sp?) said there was no way I was getting it for another year. He said to leave it with him and he would talk with Elsa and hopefully get me a date within the next 3 months. He said for me to make another appointment with him for September and hopefully I will have my surgery before then. So at least this time he didnt make any promises. He just said he would try to get me a date. So I am pessimistically hopefull. Wont get excited though until I have gotten the call! HOwever he was very pleased with what I was doing and how far I have come. When I started seeing him 2 years ago my BMI was 56. It is now 47. So I am very pleased too.
Anyways just thought I would share!
Went for an hour walk today too so feel like I got lots accomplished today.

Roxeanne, glad to hear that you're feeling a little better about your appointment today. I think that Dr. A would really like to be able to do surgery on everyone as soon as they're cleared for it and he's just as frustrated by these cutbacks as we are. Hopefully you will get the call for surgery really soon. Jayna

I am sooo excited for you!!! I know if it were up to Dr.Amson or any of the surgeons really, everyone would have surgery dates and I do know Dr.Amson does try his very best!!! I am sending you positive thoughts that you WILL get that date over the next few months!!! And you have done soooo well!!! I am so proud and impressed with you. Maybe both you and your dad will have surgery close together..that would be awesome!!! :)

THanks everyone!
Yes I know Dr Amson is just as frustrated as the rest of us with the cut backs. I know he would gladly do 10 surgeries a day if he was allowed to. What I am really thankful for is that Dr Amson didnt make any guarantees today. He just said that he would talk with Elsa and see what he could do about getting me a date. So I have realistic expectations this time not high hopes. Will let everyone know as soon as I know anything.
Carrie
Yes would be really neat if Dad and I had our surgeries close together. I really want him to get his surgery too. Actually more than I want it for myself.

Hi Sweety,
Glad your appointment went well. I agree, be cautiously optimistic and don't get your hopes to high … just sets you up for disappointment. You know I'm rooting for you all the way.
Love Ya

Hi Roxanne,
It is very hard on all of us when we are given false hope. Unfortunately, I don't believe they understand what we go through when we are told this. I was on this roller coaster for quite a while and yes, it gets depressing. We believe what we are told from the surgeon.
A person needs to remember that they are doing the best they possibly can and would like us all done Yesterday! With all the cutbacks, it has thrown another wrench in to everyones wait times. We need to keep advocating for our rights and our lives!
I know it is hard to do but the best advice I can give is to not dwell on the date. Your time will come eventually. Live your life while you wait as you don't want to watch it pass you by.
I will keep my fingers crossed for you but I also don't want to see you be let down again.
Take care,
Jodi

Jodi .. I think you hit the nail on the head. It is the false hope that is so disheartening and that's what took its toll on me.
Here is a quote from a letter to my GP … "He's been seen by our entire assessment team and he only needs a gastroscopy to be booked so we'll make arrangements for this to be done. We'll get an anesthetic consult and perhaps we'll have a surgery date for him this fall."
Now here is the kicker …. the last line read; "If not, I'll see him again in a follow up in January."
That was on June 26 of 2009. I did not know at the time that the last sentence was the most telling. I should have known it was never going to happen in the fall. I got my hope's up and the time came and went without "the call".
Roxeanne … you've been through hell and back with your various health issues and I know .. because I've been there through most of them with you. I can only hope and pray that your surgery will come through for you … and soon.
Love Ya Kiddo

Jodi and Dad!
Thank you for your post. Believe me when I say I am not expecting my surgery in a few months. Of course I will be thrilled if it is. I am actually just believing my time will come exactly when it is meant to be here. I have to believe that God is in control of all of this and that he knows when the right time is for me. I dont always understand why my life goes a certain direction but I do believe it will lead me to the right place if I am trusting in God and following him. My point of writing this more than the hopefulness of possibly having a date soon was that I actually feel Amson was honest with me and tried to give me hope without false hope. See he said that he would talk to Elsa and TRY to get me a date in the next few months. But he ALSO said to make an appointment for September and HOPEFULLY my surgery would be done by then. So there were no false hopes given. Just that he would talk to Elsa and TRY! Thats all I can ask him to do. He is not God and can only work with what time slots he has available.
Dad as for having been through Hell and back with my health issues. You are very right there but each and every one of them have made me the person I am today. I am a fighter and I dont give up. I will keep working on my weight while I wait and leave the rest in Gods hands. Besides, I guess having been through Hell just helps me stay strong in my faith because I wouldnt want to have to stay IN Hell for Eternity. Passing THROUGH was bad enough. LOL!!!
Thank you everyone for your support. Love ya all.
