Hi everyone,

I have been reading here for quite a while and thought I would jump in.  I live in Penticton and going for my second appointment with Dr. Amson in 2 weeks.  I have done my exercise and food journal (wrote down what I ate, didn't measure, but really paid attention to portion sizes, and the little exercise I am able to do)

I started getting big 7 years ago.  Before that I was heavier, but happy at 200… I gained some weight from a medical procedure, and then in August, I slipped a disc.  I am trying to avoid back surgery but cannot do any exercise without being in pain and the exercise I do now, I can't go fast enough to break a sweat.  My back surgeon would like to wait and see if loosing weight could take the pressure off my disc and avoid surgery.

I see that some of you have had a shorter wait time for your sleeve surgery than the bypass, which is the route Dr. Amson and I have decided to go… does anyone know my time frame I am looking at here??  I am afraid of being like this come winter and not be able to get my socks on, as it is now, I can't cut my toe nails or shave my own legs without help… I am only 37 and live like I am 77… any advice would be great!

Good for you to be keeping a food journal. Anything that you can do to show Dr. A you're working on things the better.  I think the wait is still long for the sleeve.  I waited 3 years from my first appointment. Maybe because of your other issues you might get in a little quicker, but I still think it's pretty long.  You could discuss Out Of Country options with him, considering you are in such pain with your back.

Good Luck,

Francina

From the times that I have visited with Dr. A. he will look at your food chart and say something like "very good" and then he will ask what exercise are you doing.  Make sure you take in a list of when you exercise, what you do, how much and how long.  He wants to know how you are positively changing your lifestyle.
