Hi Debbie, I went through the same thing a couple of weeks after surgery. I wasn't getting satisfied or getting that full feeling. I even thought I was tricked in my RnY (sounds so stupid now but I thought the whole thing was a fail for me). What happens is that the nerve to your stomach (that is cut during surgery) needs time to heal. Give a little while longer and you will see that you do get full very quickly. This is just a transitional stage as you heal and it is very misleading because your stomach and incisions start to feel better but you are starting to freak out being able to take in so much more than nine days ago. Eveything is ok and just eat frequent small meals, focusing in on getting enough protein. The stomach does get a lot tighter when it is fullly healed so just hang tough for a while longer.
Talk to your doc about your diabetic meds because they did the same thing to me in hospital. I wasn't told to start them up again but you do need to monitor closely and carefully. I went back on the Metformin but did have to stop taking insulin after six weeks due to too many lows.

I should probably ask…….did you have an RnY or a Vertical Sleeve?

I eat little bit. I did ask dr a why i was able to drink so much and he said it was ok. Some times I eat lots of chicken and nothing else. So we decide to move me to a small plate now it looks like i can manage on that.

I also had Sleeve surgery June 2011. I still don't feel "hunger" like I did before surgery. I just eat small meals 5 to 6 times a day. Liquids go down pretty much the same as before and I asked my surgeon about it and he said that is normal. You will find that sometimes it feels like you can eat way more than other times and that also varies with the density of the food you eat. If I eat chicken breast, I can only eat about two ounces at a time but yogurt I can eat about 1/2 a cup with some fruit mixed in (ie 1 frozen strawberry and 1 frozen pineapple chuck or 1/4c of blueberries). At first concentrate on protein and water mostly and slowly start to add some veggies and fruit later on. While you are healing is is a good idea to get as much protein as possible as it helps promote healing and tissue repair. I was getting about 80+g per day up until my 3 month check up, including 2-3 protein shakes throughout the day. At that time The dietician said I could go down to about 65g per day and start to add more complex carbs back in such as soft fruits and veggies. It is very small amounts like a tbsp of mashed yam or two or three baked yam fries, or a spear or two of broccoli with my protein. I also still take 1 protein shake daily in the morning and I include 2 tbsp of ground flax and 1/2 banana to that. I have recently added 2-3 apple slices with 1 tbsp of natural peanut butter as a mid morning snack while at work and let me tell you that is soooooo good. The sweet crunch of apple with the peanut flavor is delicious! It is important to keep fruits and veggies in the diet but at first it is hard to fit them in with the protein. Don't stress too much about it, but try sneaking them into shakes. Pure pumpkin (add 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice or a combo of cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves for a super yummy treat) , frozen blueberries, or whatever fruit you prefer, make great shakes and add fiber and natural sources of vitamins and nutrients. I just stay away from bread, pasta, white potatoes, rice etc. IT took me until about 3 & 1/2 months out to be able to add the fruits and veggies so don't try to rush it. Now at 5 months out, ( today in fact:), I can eat pretty normally just in smaller amounts. Congrats on your surgeries and all the best to you ladies!
