Introductions – Living The Journey

April 17, 2011 – So this is my first blog. Let me start off by saying I am not the best speller or have the best grammar.  I am writing to let people know what I go through while waiting for my surgery.

So I have been waiting for 4 years.  I waited one year to see Dr Amson.  The day I got to see him I was told 18 months I would have the surgery.  I left that day so happy thought my life would change.  Boy was he right and wrong at the same time.  My life did change but not the way you would think it would. I still have not had surgery.  But it has changed in the following ways.  I eat a lot better than I used to, I fight for surgery dates for me and others.  I made so many friends while waiting for my day.

There have been so many ups and downs with waiting.  Back in 2009 surgery were cut in Victoria BC.  Not just by a small amount they were cut by a lot.  They are allowed to do 48 surgery’s a year. Dr Amson does 24 a year. Dr Malik does 12 a year and Dr. Tang also 12 a year.  That’s not that many when you consider how many people there are waiting.  Dr Amson is still working on people for 2006.  I am 2007, not very good odds I will have it this year are not in my favor.

I have a friend that just found someone went before her that was from Oct 2006 and she is from June 2006.  I cannot stop feeling bad for her.  Since were all told from Dr Amson MOA that it goes by date.   I have been through this so many times.  There are lots of people that went before me that should not have in my opinion.  There may have been medical reasons why this was done.  I did not even get my test done until 2009/2010.  I know my friend did not get her test done until 2011 and she was from 2006.

This is sad that were waiting so long for something that can change our lives for the better.  I keep asking myself why this has happened.  I know why because of the BC province and VIHA.   Health Minster back in 2009 was Kevin Falcon.  He does not care about us that are overweight.  The funding was cut; there was nothing we could do.  Kevin acted like he knew what he was talking about but he never did.   Adrian Dix and John Horgan both NDP tried to help us, they had no luck since they were NDP.  Ron and I fought hard to get the petition that he had done into parliament but Kevin did nothing but made himself look stupid.  He was saying the wait was 18 months but to this day I still don’t know where he got his information from.    Dr Amson is truly nice man that has so much on his shoulders he’s fighting for us to have this surgery.  If he could he would do it all day every day until he got everyone done.

I find it hard to believe anything any one tells me anymore.  I was promised to get a date so many times and it never happened.  I am a good one to say back up and wait don’t get your hopes up since it may not happen.   To the people that now me would agree with that, I have been telling them to take a step back for so long.  I do believe that good things can happen don’t get me wrong.  There are people getting the dates.  I am jealous and happy for them at the same time.

On some good news one of my other friends are having a baby and she’s been waiting for surgery to.  You know who you are so contracts from me.   Enjoy this time, its only last once.  My husband and I are going to try to have a baby while I wait for my day to come since I could still be years away.

Also some more good news there is two doctors in Richmond BC now doing the surgery’s all you need to do is get a referral to them from your family doctor.  I have heard the doctors are nice over there.

I will try to upload once a week so watch for more to come.   Have a good week everyone.

Hi, You are certainly patient and I hope you don’t have to wait too much longer. It was interesting to see the figures about how few surgeries the docs are allowed to do these days
