Food Doesn’t Have To Mean Eating

The meaning we assign to objects around us predetermines their function: a tomato in the hand of a chef means food, whereas a tomato in the hand of a heckler means feedback.  You see the objects that we collectively refer to as “food” can mean other things besides being edible.  Learning to recognize these other uses and meanings allow us to break the over conditioned associations between food and eating.  Here are some ways to look at food as something other than food.

Although I’m generalizing, my overall impression of weight conscious people is that many of them face life long eating behaviour challenges. Often these behaviours are due to early childhood trauma either resulting from some sort of abuse or dysfunctional family situation.

Many people tell me that they compensate through food AND through an over selflessness nature. In other words, they think about other people’s needs before their own. This behaviour is so extreme that they regularly do so at the serious detriment of their own needs. Read the rest of this post

Why Do We Eat, Eat, Eat?

This has been a tough article for me to write. I’ve made a dozen starts and each time it just didn’t read the way I felt inside. If you’re like me, you’ve fought being overweight most of your life. Frankly in my case, I failed miserably. Every year I put more pounds on until I found myself trapped in a body that wasn’t me and that there seemed no escape from. In addition, I had a whole host of obesity related medical conditions including high blood pressure, asthma, heal spurs, diabetes and many more, some of which are so personal, I haven’t even shared them with my family. New Survey Shows – Bariatric Patients Are Happier & Healthier

A new study out of Canada finds that post-operative weight loss surgery patients are happier and healthier after bariatric surgery than they were prior.
