Q – How Long Will I Need to be Off Work After WLS?

Rating: +0

Positive Negative

How Much Time Off Work Will I need?

Chapter 13 of Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies thoroughly deals with this question.

In short, some people need as little as two weeks to recover; others need six weeks or more. Factors that will affect how ready you are:

1. The kind of surgery you had (Lap-Band or RNY)

2. Whether the surgery was open or laparoscopic

3. Health challenges you had before surgery and complications you had during surgery

4. The kind of work you do

5. Your employer’s rules

Before returning to work, ask yourself these questions:

Do you still require frequent naps or rests during the day?

Are you sleeping well at night?

Are you still on pain medication?

Have you figured out how to take small sips throughout the day to get in 64oz. of no-calorie fluid?

Has your doctor given the go ahead?
