White bread, pasta, extra old cheddar cheese, cheese(s), bagels, muffins, english muffins, Alfredo sauce, garlic bread, hot dogs, Kraft Dinner, candy, chinese food, East Indian food (butter chicken)….

If you notice anything about those foods what is it?? Maybe the Carbs, maybe the fats…but they are all something convenient.

Hello everybody. My name is Kerri, and I am a convenience-a- holic.

Yes, it is true. I love taking something out of a box when I am hungry and it being done within 5 minutes. But it’s killing me slowly. I have cut a lot of that out, but yesterday after my last day of work I went to Olive Garden…

My boyfriend and I were in town doing some running around and I saw Olive Garden. Being somewhat stuck right now in the pre surgery “I have to eat that for I’ll never have it again or for a very long time” syndrome, I said “Lets go”.
First there is the appetizer I knew I shouldn’t have had…but it’s 5 different melted cheeses with a white bagel cut up to dip with. Then there is the never-ending salad with amazing dressing and breadsticks. Then after you’ve snarfed down all the free breadsticks and salad you possibly could, there is your entree. I had Penne noodles in their 5 cheese marinara. Enough cheese? One might ask.

Not to a cheese-a-holic.

I asked for it baked…with cheese. I had visions of my arteries clogging. I’m pretty sure I ate more than my boyfriend did, and the sad thing is…I really wanted some more breadsticks as I left the restaurant. I never got them. I know…it’s a tragedy.
Needless to say I have been eating everything that I think I can’t have later. I actually made a list to cross off and kind of say goodbye to those foods. It’s something a therapist would tell you to do right? Probably not.
I have been doing something with my own cooking though. This I at least know I’m doing right. I have put the salt shaker down, added more fresh herbs in place of that salt, cut down on potatoes and white rices and such and added more vegetables like Zucchini, cauliflower, broccoli, green beans etc. I’m pretty damn happy with that. However, what doesn’t kill you, you can eat..So I’m eating my vegetables O.K!

BUT…and there is a very big but (not just mine)…I am thoroughly enjoying myself here with food. If I want something like cake..I’ll eat it because after surgery I’ll probably dump on it. So yes, I have added more vegetables to my regimen, and fruits  and I am trying to cut the carbs so its not cold turkey after surgery, but I will give in if I want something.
One of the biggest regrets six out of the ten Gastric Bypass patients told me of is that they 1. didn’t eat whatever they wanted before surgery and 2. were on diets or 3. that they didn’t take advantage of the honeymoon period. So I think it’s safe to say I will keep on doing this for maybe 4 more days until my 10 day countdown starts. Hey, at least I’m exercising! So the lesson for today folks is :

What doesn’t Kill you..You can Eat!

I’d really like an Eggs Benny right about now…..
